Westbrook looks to guide Indians past Nationals in finale
Jun 24, 2007 - 2:50 PM Cleveland (43-30) at Washington (31-43) 1:35 pm EDTWASHINGTON (Ticker) - The Cleveland Indians will try to take the finale of their three-game series from the Washington Nationals on Sunday.
To the mound for the Indians is Jake Westbrook (1-2, 7.90 ERA), who makes hit first start after coming off the 15-day disabled list with a strained left abdominal muscle.
In his last rehabilitation appearance with Class AAA Buffalo, Westbrook gave up two runs and two hits with four walks over four innings. He has never faced Washington in his career.
On Saturday, Victor Martinez delivered a three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to help Cleveland rally for a 4-3 victory.
Washington's Jason Simontacchi (4-5, 6.31) hopes to forget his last outing. The righthander was hammered for a season-high 10 runs and 10 hits in just three innings in a loss to Detroit on Tuesday.
Simontacchi has posted a 5-3 mark in 12 lifetime interleague appearances, including nine starts, with a 6.24 ERA.
