Arroyo looks for first win in over a month
Jun 24, 2007 - 3:05 PM Cincinnati (29-46) at Seattle (38-33) 4:05 pm EDTSEATTLE (Ticker) - Bronson Arroyo takes the mound for the Cincinnati Reds as they try and take the rubber game of a three-game series with the Seattle Mariners on Sunday.
Cincinnati's ace last year, Arroyo (2-8, 5.24 ERA) has gone 0-6 with a 7.83 ERA in his last eight starts. Arroyo, who will be pitching on an extra day's rest, yielded seven runs - six earned - and eight hits in six innings in an 11-4 loss to Texas last Sunday.
Overall, Arroyo has not won since beating Colorado on May 6.
Meanwhile, Ken Griffey Jr. will be leaving town once again after his first visit since being traded at the end of the 1999 season. Griffey has struggled in the series going 2-for-9 with five strikeouts in the first two games.
Raul Ibanez hit a first-inning grand slam as the Mariners won Saturday's game 9-1. However, Ibanez left the game with an hamstring injury in the fifth inning.
Seattle, which has won three of four after a season-high six game skid, will send Miguel Batista (7-6, 4.99) to the mound.
Batista will try and halt a personal two-game losing streak after he surrendered four runs - two earned - in 5 1/3 innings against Pittsburgh on Tuesday.
