Angels seek weekend series sweep of Pirates

ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- The surging Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim goes for a three-game series sweep over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.

Anaheim gives the ball to Bartolo Colon (6-3, 6.17 ERA), who will try to bounce back from a dismal outing. On Tuesday, he was hammered for seven runs and 11 hits in six innings of a 9-5 setback to Houston.

The hard-throwing Colon has been impressive when facing the Pirates, posting a 2-1 record with a meager 1.13 ERA in three career starts.

Kelvim Escobar pitched eight solid innings and slugger Vladimir Guerrero hit a two-run homer for the Angles in Saturday's 10-1 triumph.

Pittsburgh's Tom Gorzelanny (7-4, 3.01) was stellar in his last start, yielding two runs and seven hits with six strikeouts for a 5-3 victory at Seattle on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old lefthander will be making his first career appearance against the Angels.

The Pirates have been lackluster during this current nine-game road trip, getting outscored, 25-5, in the first five contests. Pittsburgh is an eye-popping 0-21 when scoring less than three runs.
