Athletics turn to Gaudin to stop skid, face Indians
Jun 25, 2007 - 12:54 PM Oakland (39-35) at Cleveland (43-31) 7:05 pm EDTCLEVELAND (Ticker) - Trying to erase the memory of a sweep and avoid their longest losing streak in over a year, the Oakland Athletics turn to righthander Chad Gaudin.
Gaudin and the Athletics hope to stop a three-game slide when they face the Cleveland Indians in the opener of a four-game series on Monday.
Oakland was swept in a three-game series over the weekend against the New York Mets. In the midst of their third three-game losing streak this season, the A's have not dropped four in a row since May 20-26, 2006.
Gaudin (6-2, 3.05 ERA) toes the rubber looking to bounce back from his first loss in his last nine starts. The righthander allowed four runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings in a 5-2 loss to Cincinnati on Tuesday.
The Indians counter with Cliff Lee (4-4, 5.46), who is looking to win his third consecutive start. The lefthander allowed a run and five hits in seven innings of a 10-1 win over Philadelphia last Monday. The 28-year-old has yielded just four runs in 12 total innings over his last two starts.
Cleveland is looking to rebound from dropping two of three over the weekend at Washington, including a 3-1 loss on Sunday. The Indians have lost 12 of 21 overall to fall out of first in the American League Central.
