Lincecum looks to get back on track as Giants face Padres
Jun 25, 2007 - 2:34 PM San Diego (42-32) at San Francisco (32-42) 10:15 pm EDTSAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- The San Francisco Giants have gotten back on track. Now, they hope rookie phenom Tim Lincecum will do the same.
Lincecum and the Giants will look for their third straight win when they host the San Diego Padres at AT&T Park on Monday.
After suffering through an eight-game losing streak, including the series opener this weekend against the New York Yankees, San Francisco has won two straight. Barry Bonds reached base four times, and Noah Lowry pitched 5 2/3 effective innings as San Francisco beat New York, 7-2, in the series finale Sunday.
It will look for another win behind the struggling Lincecum (2-2, 5.88 ERA), who is winless in his last five starts. The small righthander started off the campaign well, tossing at least seven innings in four of his first five outings.
But he has not gotten out of the fifth in three of his last four. Lincecum yielded six runs and five hits, while walking four and striking out six in his last outing - a 6-2 loss at Milwaukee last Tuesday.
He will be opposed by Justin Germano (5-1, 2.63), who absorbed his first loss of the season his last time out. He allowed three runs and five hits in six innings, while striking out seven and walking two in a 7-1 loss vs. the Baltimore Orioles last Wednesday.
The Padres have lost four of their last five games.
