Suppan, Hart look to keep Brewers rolling
Jun 27, 2007 - 1:43 PM Houston (32-45) at Milwaukee (45-32) 2:05 pm EDTMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Brewers are on a roll and a big reason is their play at home.
Milwaukee, which owns the National League's best home mark at 29-13, looks for a three-game sweep of their NL Central rival Houston Astros on Wednesday.
Jeff Suppan (8-7, 4.90 ERA) takes the hill for the Brewers, who have won eight of their last nine games at home and 11 of 13 overall.
Suppan is looking for consecutive wins for the first time since he won five straight starts from April 14-May 5. The righthander picked up his latest win Friday despite allowing five runs and nine hits in five innings against the Kansas City Royals.
Corey Hart, who is riding a career-high 13-game hitting streak, has been a big reason for Milwaukee's stellar play. The outfielder is hitting .390 (23-for-59) with six home runs and 16 RBI during the streak to help the Brewers average nearly seven runs.
As for the Astros, they have lost five of six and is a NL-worst 15-27 on the road.
Woody Williams (3-10, 5.75), who has lost four straight road starts, will try and lead Houston to just its third win over Milwaukee in nine meetings.
In an 11-3 loss at the Texas Rangers on Friday, Williams was tagged for five runs and seven hits over four innings.
