Yankees looking for a win, any win

BRONX, New York (Ticker) - The New York Yankees were on the verge of getting a win on Thursday, but it seems like even Mother Nature is against them these days.

The Yankees head home to face the Oakland Athletics on Friday, a day after having their 8-6 eighth-inning lead against the Baltimore Orioles suspended due to rain.

New York, which has lost seven of eight, used a four-run eighth inning to jump ahead of the Orioles before the rains came, forcing the game to be suspended until July 27.

Before Thursday, the Yankees offense had been abysmal in the last eight games, averaging just 2.6 runs per contest.

New York's hitters will be taking their hacks against A's starter Joe Kennedy (2-5, 3.98 ERA) on Friday. The 28-year-old lefthander suffered through his shortest start of the season last time out, getting pulled after just four innings against the New York Mets after yielding five runs and eight hits to earn the loss.

The Yankees will counter with Mike Mussina (3-5, 4.98). The veteran righthander has been a victim New York's offensive woes in his last two starts.

The Yankees have scored two runs in Mussina's last two starts - both losses.

Oakland has been struggling of late as well, dropping six of its last seven games.
