Snell looks to continue home success vs. Nationals
Jun 29, 2007 - 1:55 PM Washington (32-46) at Pittsburgh (33-45) 7:05 pm EDTPITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates begin a three-game weekend series against the Washington Nationals on Friday at PNC Park.
Pittsburgh's Ian Snell (6-5, 2.92 ERA), fifth in the National League in ERA, looks to continue his success at home, where he is 5-2 with a 2.22 ERA in seven starts.
Snell struggled in his last start, as he yielded five runs and 10 hits in six innings in a 10-1 loss to the Angels.
Opposing Snell will be rookie Matt Chico (3-5, 5.08), who is looking for his first win in over a month. The 24-year-old is 0-1 with a 4.66 ERA in seven starts since that victory on May 17 over the Braves.
The lefthanded Chico yielded one run and four hits on Saturday against Cleveland, but failed to get the win as the bullpen was unable to hold the lead late in a 4-3 loss.
In his only other career start against the Pirates on June 7, Chico lasted a season-high seven frames, striking out five.
