Cardinals, Reds open three-game series
Jun 29, 2007 - 1:58 PM St Louis (34-41) at Cincinnati (30-49) 7:10 pm EDTCINCINNATI (Ticker) -- The St. Louis Cardinals will conclude their six-game road trip when they open a weekend series against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday.
Adam Wainwright (6-6, 4.58 ERA) takes the hill for the defending World Series champions, who have dropped three of their last four games. The righthander allowed two runs in six innings of an 8-3 victory over Philadelphia last Saturday.
In his lone career start against Cincinnati, Wainwright gave up four runs in six frames during a 5-1 loss on June 7. He is winless in six lifetime appearances in the series all-time.
Bronson Arroyo (2-9, 5.14) goes in search of his first win in nine starts for the Reds. An All-Star a season ago, Arroyo has been a major disappointment in the first half this campaign.
Despite losing his previous outing, the righthander was solid, allowing just three runs through seven innings of a 3-2 setback against the Seattle Mariners last Sunday.
Cincinnati enters after a heartbreaking loss as Jimmy Rollins stroked a game-winning RBI single off reliever Victor Santos in the 10th inning as Philadelphia posted an 8-7 win on Thursday.
