Final/10
Diamondbacks look to stay near top of division, face Giants
Jun 29, 2007 - 2:12 PM Arizona (45-35) at San Francisco (33-44) 10:15 pm EDTSAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- To get back on the winning track, the Arizona Diamondbacks turn to struggling starter Livan Hernandez.
Hernandez and the Diamondbacks look to regain a piece of first place when they open a three-game series with the rival San Francisco Giants on Friday.
Arizona was beaten, 9-5, by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday. The loss dropped them out of a first-place tie with the San Diego Padres and a half game behind San Diego and Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West Division.
The Diamondbacks turn to Hernandez (5-5, 4.68 ERA), who is 0-3 with a 7.67 ERA in his last five starts. The 32-year-old righthander, who has not won a game since May 27, is 3-4 with a 2.82 ERA in 10 career starts versus San Francisco.
The Diamondbacks have won five of nine matchups vs. the Giants, but they were swept in the only series in San Francisco.
The Giants send Matt Morris (7-4, 3.39) to the mound, who is 0-2 this season and 4-5 lifetime vs. the Diamondbacks. The righthander allowed four runs and a career-high tying 13 hits over 5 2/3 innings in his last start Saturday.
