Beckett aims for 12th win as Red Sox host Rangers
Jun 30, 2007 - 1:04 PM Texas (32-47) at Boston (49-29) 7:05 pm EDTBOSTON (Ticker) - Josh Beckett will look to become baseball's first 12-game winner when he takes the hill for the Boston Red Sox against the Texas Rangers as the clubs face off in the second contest of a four-game series on Saturday night.
In his last start against San Diego ace Jake Peavy last Sunday, Beckett (11-1, 3.07 ERA) threw eight solid innings as the Red Sox won the rubber game of the three-game series, 4-2.
He allowed more than one baserunner only once in an inning en route to yielding two runs and five hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.
Boston looks for its second straight win after posting an exciting 2-1 victory over the Rangers in the series opener on Friday night. Tim Wakefield tossed 6 2/3 solid innings, and Manny Delcarmen, Hideki Okajima and Jonathan Papelbon shut the door.
It was a big win for the Red Sox, who went 4-5 on their recent nine-game west coast road swing. The trip had been going well until they were swept by the Seattle Mariners in three games to end the jaunt.
Texas will counter with Robinson Tejeda (5-7, 6.57), who had one of his worst outings of the season his last time out. The righthander yielded seven runs - five earned - and five hits in 3 2/3 frames last Sunday in a 12-9 loss vs. the Houston Astros.
However, Tejeda has had success against the Red Sox this season, tossing seven scoreless innings - surrendering just two hits - in a 2-0 victory vs. Boston on April 6.
