Sabathia looks for 12th win vs. lowly Devil Rays
Jun 30, 2007 - 1:10 PM Tampa Bay (33-45) at Cleveland (47-32) 7:05 pm EDTCLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Cleveland Indians' starter C. C. Sabathia looks to prey on the feeble Tampa Bay Devil Rays as the teams continue their three-game series on Saturday.
Sabathia (11-2, 3.24 ERA) is the major league-leader in wins and takes the mound seeking his third straight win for the league's best home team.
The burly lefthander can match his season win total of last season and record his ninth home win in 10 starts here as the Indians aim for their third straight win.
Sabathia's home mark is the best in the league for Cleveland which, by no coincidence is the best home team with a record of 28-12 at Jacobs Field.
In his last start Sabathia beat Oakland as he hurled a complete game on Monday, surrendering just two runs and scattering nine hits.
Now, the two-time All-star is set to beat up on a Tampa Bay squad that has lost five straight and 12 of its last 16.
J.P. Howell (1-1, 4.45) takes the mound for the Devil Rays looking to put an end to their recent skid. Howell, who has not won in nearly a month, allowed three runs and eight hits in five innings against Chicago on Monday.
