Wainwright and Cardinals look for some consistency

CINCINNATI (Ticker) - Adam Wainwright will be working on some extra rest when he takes the mound for the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday against the Cincinnati Reds.

Wainwright (6-6, 4.58 ERA) was scheduled to pitch on Thursday against the New York Mets, but the game was rained out.

The converted reliever has had an up-and-down season in his first go-round as a starter, having alternated wins and losses in his last four outings. Last Saturday, Wainwright beat Philadelphia by yielding just two runs and seven hits in seven innings.

Like Wainwright, the Cardinals have alternated wins and losses in their last four games as well. On Friday, Juan Encarnacion a go-ahead RBI single in a three-run eighth to lead the Cardinals to a 4-2 win.

Cincinnati, owners of the league's worst record, will send Kyle Lohse (3-10, 5.02) to the hill. Lohse has lost his last three starts and has not won since beating the Cardinals by limiting them to one run and seven hits in 8 1/3 innings on June 7.
