Tavarez looks to bounce back vs. Rangers
Jul 1, 2007 - 1:57 PM Texas (33-47) at Boston (49-30), 2:05 pm EDTBOSTON (Ticker) - The Boston Red Sox will try to turn the page on a sub-par June when they host the Texas Rangers in the rubber game of a three-game series on Sunday.
After setting a blistering pace with a 36-16 record over the first two months of the season, the Red Sox stumbled to a 13-14 June. Despite the down-swing, Boston still owns the best record in baseball and a comfortable 10 1/2 game lead in the American League East.
Julian Tavarez (5-5, 4.60 ERA) will be looking to bounce back from one of his worst outings of the season. The veteran sinkerballer took his first loss since May 11 last Monday when he yielded six runs - three earned - and six hits in 4 1/3 at Seattle.
Tavarez has gotten knocked around twice already this season against the Rangers, going 0-1 while allowing eight runs in 9 2/3 innings over a pair of starts.
Texas will counter with the resurgent Kameron Loe (4-6, 6.02). The 25-year-old righthander has been on fire since being recalled from the minors on June 14.
He was sent down after allowing nine runs in 2 2/3 innings against Detroit on June 7, but was called back up due to Vicente Padilla's injury and has proceeded to go 3-0 with a 2.08 ERA in three outings.
The Rangers won Saturday night's game, 5-4, when Sammy Sosa snapped a tie with his 602nd career home run.
