Bonds continues march towards No. 755 in series finale
Jul 1, 2007 - 2:44 PM Arizona (46-36) at San Francisco (34-45) 4:05 pm EDTSAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) - After just missing an opportunity to send homer No. 751 into the stands on Saturday, Barry Bonds looks to give it another shot as the San Francisco Giants look for a series win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Bonds crushed home run No. 750 in the first game of this series on Friday and nearly hit another one on Saturday, which would have been the first time since April 21-22 that he homered in consecutive games, also against Arizona.
He instead settled on a RBI double to right, remaining five home runs short of tying Hank Aaron's all-time record.
Arizona Rookie Micah Owings (5-2, 3.79 ERA) will get the call in the rubber game of the series. He saw the end of a four-game winning streak - which came over nine starts - in a 8-1 loss to the Dodgers on Monday, in which he surrendered four runs - one earned - over six frames.
The righthander will be facing Bonds and the Giants for the first time.
The Giants will answer with fellow rookie Tim Lincecum (2-2, 5.19), who tossed seven scoreless innings after Monday's 4-3, 11-inning win over San Diego. This outing came on the heels of allowing 22 earned runs over his last four outings.
The righthander is 0-2 with a 6.89 ERA after going 2-0 with a 3.08 ERA in his first four starts. He will be making his first career start against the Diamondbacks.
