Baker's Twins look to sweep Tigers

Jul 1, 2007 - 3:34 PM Minnesota (42-37) at Detroit (46-33) 8:05 pm EDT

DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Minnesota Twins turn to Scott Baker to attempt something they have not done in nearly three years.

Baker and the Twins seek their fourth straight win when they face the Detroit Tigers in the finale of a three-game series on Sunday.

Minnesota has scored 19 runs in winning the first two games of its series vs. Detroit, including an 8-5 victory on Saturday.

To gain their first sweep at Comerica Park since September 2004, the Twins send Baker (2-2, 5.77 ERA) to the mound. The righthander yielded a run and four hits over seven-plus innings but did not factor in the decision in the Twins' 2-1, 12-inning win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old Baker is 2-1 in four career starts against the Tigers.

Detroit counters with Jeremy Bonderman (8-1, 3.90), who tries to rebound from his first loss of the season. The righthander allowed four runs - two earned - and seven hits in seven innings in an 8-3 setback to the Texas Rangers on Monday.

The Tigers have lost 10 of their last 14 home games and are 1-4 on a current 12-game homestand.
