Clemens takes another shot at career win No. 350

BRONX, New York (Ticker) - If Roger Clemens hopes to notch his 350th career win on Monday when the New York Yankees host the Minnesota Twins, he'd better hope his offense turns in a better performance than they have been lately.

The Yankees lost on Sunday to fall to just 2-9 over their last 11 contests, averaging just over 2.5 runs per contest during that span.

Clemens (1-3, 5.32 ERA) signed a pro-rated contract for $28 million so that he could help lead New York back to the playoffs. The 44-year-old hurler has pitched into the seventh inning just once in four starts, and has allowed seven hits and four earned runs in each of his last two starts, both losses.

The future Hall of Famer failed to strike a batter out last Wednesday for the first time since June 14, 2000.

The Twins will counter with Boof Bonser (5-4, 4.65). The 25-year-old righthander has struggled of late, allowing at least four earned runs in each of his last three starts, going 0-2 over that stretch.

New York beat up on Bonser on April 10, plating seven runs - six earned - and six hits in 4 1/3 innings to hand the youngster a loss.

Minnesota had a three-game winning streak snapped Sunday with a 1-0 loss to Detroit.
