Without Hargrove, Mariners looking for ninth straight win
Jul 2, 2007 - 1:19 PM Seattle (45-33) at Kansas City (34-48) 8:10 pm EDTKANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - The Seattle Mariners look to continue their winning ways under John McLaren on Monday when they face the Kansas City Royals.
On Sunday, the Mariners were stunned when manager Mike Hargrove announced his resignation. He will be replaced McLaren, who was the club's bench coach.
Hargrove's last contest Sunday saw the Mariners extend their winning streak to eight games with a 2-1 triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Felix Hernadez (4-4, 4.33 ERA) starts for the Mariners. The righthander has just one win in his last six starts, going 1-2 during that span.
Gil Meche (5-6, 3.28), who left Seattle in the offseason to sign a five-year, $55 million contract with the Royals, faces his former team for a third time this season. The righthander has split his previous two outings against the Mariners this season.
Kansas City has lost consecutive games following a five-game winning streak.
