Peavy looks for 10th win vs. Marlins
Jul 5, 2007 - 2:02 PM Florida (39-46) at San Diego (48-35) 3:35 pm EDTSAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Jake Peavy takes the mound looking to head into the All-Star break on a high note.
Peavy and the San Diego Padres face off against Byung-Hyun Kim and the Florida Marlins in the finale of a four-game series on Thursday.
San Diego, which has won six of its last eight games, captured a 1-0 victory on Wednesday when Mike Cameron scored in the ninth inning on a throwing error by third baseman Miguel Cabrera.
Having Peavy (9-2, 2.09 ERA) on the mound is good news for the Padres, who have won 13 of his 17 starts this season.
Set to appear in his second All-Star game on Tuesday, Peavy allowed one run and five hits in seven innings, but did not figure in a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Kim (3-4, 5.19) takes the ball for the Marlins, who have lost eight of 11. Kim is winless in his last six starts despite his previous effort in which the righthander yielded a run and four hits in 6 1/3 innings, but did not factor in a 6-5 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Saturday.
Kim has not won since beating the Chicago Cubs on May 28, and is 0-2 with a 5.22 ERA in his last six outings.
