Gaudin, A's open four-game series with Mariners

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Chad Gaudin takes the mound as the Oakland Athletics open a four-game series with their American League West rival Seattle Mariners on Thursday.

Gaudin (7-3, 2.92 ERA) is coming off a career-best start in which held the potent New York Yankees lineup to one hit over seven innings on Saturday.

The righthander will look to follow that up with a solid performance against a team in transition.

The Seattle Mariners are adjusting to new manager John McLaren after Mike Hargrove resigned during an eight-game winning streak. Seattle, which is 1-2 since Hargrove's resignation, will send Miguel Batista (8-6, 4.63) to the hill.

Batista won his last start against Toronto on Saturday by yielding just one run and five hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Seattle got McLaren his first win on Wednesday by scoring four runs in the first inning in a 4-0 win over Kansas City.

Meanwhile Oakland has lost six of 10 at home after falling 10-3 to Toronto on Wednesday.
