Haren puts unbeaten streak on line against Mariners

Jul 6, 2007 - 2:44 PM Seattle (46-36) at Oakland (44-41) 10:05 pm EDT

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The last time Dan Haren lost, there was likely to be a flurry or two falling from sky.

Haren (10-2, 2.20 ERA) makes his final push to start the All-Star game as he takes the mound for the Oakland Athletics in the middle game of a three-game series with the Seattle Mariners on Friday.

Haren is unbeaten in his last 16 starts and has not lost since April 7 when he allowed two runs - one earned - in six innings against Anaheim. Since that loss Haren is 10-0 with a 2.37 ERA during the longest winning streak of his five-year career.

In his last outing the righthander won despite a less-than-stellar performance. Haren allowed five runs and eight hits over 5 1/3 innings in an 11-5 win over New York on Sunday.

Haren will be trying to avenge one of his two losses, which came against Seattle on April 2.

Meanwhile, Jeff Weaver enters this start on a roll of his own. Weaver (2-6, 6.75) has lowered his astronomical 14.32 ERA by going 2-0 with a 1.65 ERA in his last five starts.

Weaver lost five of his first six starts before heading to the disabled list with shoulder tendinitis, but has bounced back well. The righthander has allowed just six earned runs in his last 32 2/3 innings.

On Sunday Weaver beat Toronto by limiting them to one run and seven hits in eight innings.

Seattle has lost the opener, 9-6, on Thursday and has dropped three of four under new manager John McLaren.
