Diamondbacks aim to get back on track against Reds

CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Micah Owings gets the start as the Arizona Diamondbacks hope to avoid a three-game losing streak when they face the Cincinnati Reds in the opener of a three-game series on Friday.

Owings (5-3, 4.42 ERA) gave up seven runs and eight hits with three walks in just four innings in a 13-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

The Diamondbacks are struggling recently, losing five of their last six contests and eight of their last 11.

Arizona has gone from leading the National League West by one game to falling to third in the division over that span, 2 1/2 games behind the San Diego Padres.

As much as the Diamondbacks have had trouble with wins recently, the Reds have struggled all season, posting the major league's worst record.

Kyle Lohse (4-10, 4.77) will look to help Cincinnati turn it around. The 28-year-old righthander snapped a three-game losing streak in his previous start, pitching seven strong innings in a 5-1 triumph over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday.

The Reds are currently on pace to lose 100 games this season, which would be the most for the franchise since 1982.
