Guthrie hopes to carry strong finish into first start vs. White Sox

Guthrie was acquired from the Colorado Rockies on July 20 in exchange for pitcher Jonathan Sanchez. He went 5-3 with a 3.16 earned run average in 14 starts after the deal, including a 4-0 mark with a 2.17 ERA over his final 11 starts.
Overall on the year, though, he was 8-12 with a 4.76 ERA.
Chicago, meanwhile, will pin its hopes on righty Gavin Floyd, who has reached double-digit wins each of the past five years. Last season Floyd went 12-11 with a 4.29 ERA and 144 strikeouts in 29 starts.
Chicago has won the first two games of this set. On Wednesday, Alexei Ramirez, Adam Dunn and Tyler Flowers each hit solo homers to help the White Sox to a 5-2 triumph.
Dayan Viciedo added a two-run homer for the White Sox, who saw starter Jake Peavy (1-0) last six innings and strike out six batters while allowing two runs -- one earned -- on four hits.
"We've got guys one through nine who can hit the ball out of the park," Dunn said. "I guess it doesn't really matter how you score runs, only that you score them."
Billy Butler had an RBI and Alex Gordon hit a double and scored a run for the Royals, while starter Ervin Santana (0-1) picked up the loss after allowing four runs on five hits -- including three homers -- but did strike out eight batters in defeat.
Kansas City took the season series last year, going 12-6.
