Twins rely on Worley in Baltimore

Apr 6, 2013 - 2:06 PM (Sports Network) - California-born Vance Worley makes his second start in a Minnesota Twins uniform Saturday when they visit Camden Yards for the second of three weekend games with the host Baltimore Orioles.

Worley, a 25-year-old, was a third-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008. He reached the majors and made five appearances in 2010, then appeared 25 and 23 times in 2011 and 2012, respectively, going 17-12 while making 44 starts.

He was acquired by the Twins in a December trade that sent Ben Revere to Philadelphia.

Worley debuted with Minnesota on Monday and pitched six innings while giving up three runs and eight hits in a 4-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers.

For the Orioles, right-hander Chris Tillman returns from a left abdominal injury that shelved him for the last portion of spring training.

A former second-round pick of the Seattle Mariners, Tillman, who turns 25 on April 15, was acquired by the Orioles in a trade that also sent Adam Jones and three other players to Baltimore for Erik Bedard.

He won seven games in his initial three stints with the Orioles from 2009 through 2011, then won a career-best nine games in 15 starts with Baltimore in 2012 while posting a 2.93 earned run average across 86 innings.

Tillman has lost all three career starts against Minnesota while posting a 4.26 ERA in 12 2/3 innings.

On Friday, Chris Davis hit a game-changing grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Orioles battled back to down the Twins, 9-5.

Davis, who finished with two hits and five RBI, made major league history by becoming just the fourth player to homer in four straight games to start the season. Also on that rare list is San Francisco's Willie Mays in (1971), St.Louis' Mark McGwire (1998) and Texas' Nelson Cruz (2011).

Jones chipped in with a 3-for-5 effort with two RBI and three runs scored and Matt Wieters and Nick Markakis each had two hits for the Orioles. Manny Machado and J.J. Hardy added one hit and one RBI in the victory for Baltimore, which has won three of four to start the season.

Starter Jake Arrieta, who made his second straight home opener for the O's, tossed five innings and allowed five runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking two.

Brian Dozier paced Minnesota with two hits, one run scored and three RBI, while Chris Parmelee and Eduardo Escobar drove in one run apiece in the setback.

The Orioles won five of seven games in 2012, including all three in Baltimore.
