Royals shut out Twins to earn series sweep
Apr 11, 2013 - 5:25 AMVideo
Davis (1-0) struck out six in five innings of work before giving way to Chen, who gave up just two hits in three innings. Herrera struck out the side for his second save of the season.
"I had a little trouble early," Davis said. "I didn't make it too easy on myself, but the goal was to keep it where it was. I had a lead and Bruce did a great job coming up behind me."
Jeff Francoeur also hit a home run for Kansas City, which has won four straight contests. Salvador Perez went 3-for-4 with a double.
Liam Hendriks (0-1) picked up the loss despite allowing just one run in five innings while striking out four. He is now just 1-11 in his brief MLB career.
Joe Mauer and Chris Parmelee had two hits apiece for the Twins.
Butler got KC going with his two-out bomb to straight away center field off of Hendriks.
"I felt like I threw the ball well. It was just that one pitch," Hendriks said.
The Twins nearly responded in the top of the second. After surrendering singles to Parmelee and Brian Dozier and then hitting Pedro Florimon, Davis proceeded to strikeout Aaron Hicks, who went 0-for-5 on the night, and Mauer. Josh Willingham then popped up to short to end the frame.
Davis settled down from that point on, allowing just one hit and one walk in his final three innings.
Kansas City made it 2-0 in the seventh on Francoeur's solo shot. Later in the inning, Alcides Escobar plated Chris Getz with a bloop single to right.
