Buehrle hopes to put historic sweep behind White Sox

Jul 7, 2007 - 1:28 PM Minnesota (45-41) at Chi White Sox (37-47) 3:55 pm EDT

CHICAGO (Ticker) - If the Chicago White Sox continue to struggle this much, ace Mark Buehrle may be out of town sooner rather than later.

Buehrle (5-6, 3.26 ERA) takes the hill on Saturday as he looks to help the White Sox erase the memory of the worst doubleheader sweep in 68 years.

In his last start Buehrle allowed four runs - two earned - and nine hits in 7 2/3 innings, but received a no-decision when the bullpen let a four-run lead slip away against Baltimore last Saturday.

A free-agent after this season, rumors continue to swirl about his future with Chicago and Buehrle even playfully cleaned out his locker insinuating a trade had been struck before Friday's game.

But the White Sox play of late is the only thing that is comical.

On Friday they were outscored 32-14 by the Twins in a day-night doubleheader. It was the most combined runs allowed since 1939 when the Boston Red Sox scored 35 runs in a sweep the Philadelphia Athletics.

Reigning American League MVP Justin Morneau had three homers in the nightcap and nine RBI on the day for Minnesota which has won seven of eight against divisional foes.

Boof Bonser (5-5, 4.76) takes the hill as the Twins try and carry over the momentum from Friday's sweep. Bonser is winless in his last four starts after allowing four runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings against New York last Saturday.
