Brewers search for second straight win vs. Nationals

Jul 7, 2007 - 1:59 PM Milwaukee (49-37) at Washington (34-52) 7:05 pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Ticker) - The Milwaukee Brewers hopes to build off their recent success as they face the Washington Nationals in the second game of a weekend series on Saturday.

Rookie Ryan Braun homered twice and starter Dave Bush allowed just one run in seven innings to lead the Brewers to a 6-2 victory, ending a three-game slide in Friday's series opener.

Braun, who was named the National League Rookie of the Month in June, has hit 10 home runs in just 38 major league games since his recall from Class AAA Nashville on May 24.

Jeff Suppan (8-7, 4.90 ERA) takes the ball for the Brewers after two straight no-decisions - both wins. He only lasted five innings in his pervious start, allowing three runs and five hits in Monday's 10-3 win at Pittsburgh.

The righthander is 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA in four lifetime outings against the Nationals, who are 8-16 against the National League Central this season.

Washington's Jason Simontacchi (5-6, 6.27) goes to the mound with the hopes of rebounding from his last outing. He was pounded for five runs and seven hits in just three frames vs. the Chicago Cubs five day ago.

In his first start of the season, Simontacchi gave up four runs over six innings in a loss to Milwaukee on May 8 at Miller Park. He is 1-1 all-time in the series.
