Phils, Reds pick up where they left off at Great American Ball Park

Apr 17, 2013 - 2:03 PM (Sports Network) - Lefty John Lannan faces the Cincinnati Reds for the first time with a new team tonight when the Philadelphia Phillies return to Great American Ball Park to close out a weather-addled three-game series.

The Reds opened the set with a 4-2 victory on Monday night, but no conclusions were drawn on Tuesday after the scheduled middle game was initially delayed - and later suspended - by rain.

The teams played scoreless baseball into the ninth inning before the action was halted, and they'll attempt to complete that game - beginning at 5:30 p.m. - before returning to begin the full game, weather permitting, at 7:10 p.m.

Philadelphia reliever Phillippe Aumont, who was warming up when the game was stopped, will begin the bottom of the ninth on the mound and will face shortstop Zack Cozart to lead off the inning.

Cozart had one of the Reds' two hits through eight innings. The Phillies had also managed just two hits.

"It'll be strange getting the first at-bat at home," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "I hope we win it before we get (to the 10th inning). It doesn't matter. They've got the heart of their lineup coming up. We're starting off even."

In the full game, Lannan, a 28-year-old from Long Beach, N.Y., will face the Reds for the fifth time in his 137th major-league outing.

He was 1-0 in four previous meetings against them while with the Washington Nationals, with whom he pitched for parts of six seasons before signing a one- year, $2.5 million deal with the Phillies in December.

Lannan's received a pair of no-decisions in two starts with Philadelphia while allowing just four runs on eight hits in 13 innings, with a walk and seven strikeouts.

The Phillies won both games, defeating Kansas City and Miami.

Lannan has 5.40 earned run average in 11 2/3 career innings at Great American Ball Park.

The Reds go with right-hander Mike Leake, who'll seek his first win against the Phillies in their sixth career matchup.

The 25-year-old Californian is 0-3 with an unsightly 9.33 ERA in 27 innings against Philadelphia, including a pair of losses in 2012 while he was ripped for 16 hits and 13 runs in 6 2/3 innings.

Leake has gotten a pair of no-decisions in two starts so far in 2012 while allowing 16 hits and nine runs in 12 innings against Washington and Pittsburgh.

The Reds lost both games.

The Phillies won four of seven games between the teams in 2012 and have won the season series each year since 2004, when it was tied at three games apiece. The Reds last won in 2003 by taking five of nine games.
