Cards, Pirates try again to get one in at PNC Park
Apr 17, 2013 - 2:22 PM (Sports Network) - Hot-shot prospect Shelby Miller aims to stay unbeaten in his brief big-league career on Wednesday night when the St. Louis Cardinals visit PNC Park for the finale of a weather-impacted series with the Pittsburgh Pirates.Tuesday's second game was postponed by rain after the Pirates had taken a 4-2 lead. Rain arrived in the second inning and continued, prompting the stoppage. No makeup date has been announced.
Miller, the 19th overall pick of the 2009 draft, won his lone decision in six starts with the Cardinals at the end of last season while allowing two runs on nine hits in 13 2/3 innings.
He's won both of his starts thus far in 2013 while surrendering five hits and two runs in 12 1/3 innings while defeating San Francisco and Milwaukee.
In 26 overall big-league innings, Miller has walked eight batters, struck out 28 and allowed an opposition batting average of .154.
He has never faced the Pirates.
Pittsburgh starts veteran righty A.J. Burnett, who'll make a fourth attempt at a first victory of the season.
Burnett, who won 16 games in 31 starts last season, opened 2013 with consecutive losses to the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers, then got a no- decision in the Pirates' defeat of the Cincinnati Reds.
He's allowed seven runs on 16 hits in 17 innings while walking eight and striking out 27.
Burnett is 5-5 in 11 lifetime starts against the Cardinals.
The Pirates won eight of 15 games between the teams in 2012, a year after the Cardinals had won the season series, 9-7.
