Zambrano, Cubs look to keep rolling against Pirates
Jul 8, 2007 - 1:12 PM Chicago Cubs (44-42) at Pittsburgh (39-48), 1:35 pm EDTPITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Carlos Zambrano looks to continue his recent run of success when the Chicago Cubs visit the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.
In his last six starts, Zambrano (10-6, 4.04 ERA) has posted a 5-1 record and a 1.42 ERA. In that span, he has not allowed more than two runs in any start and has lowered his ERA from 5.62 to 4.04. The righthander is 7-1 with a 3.05 ERA in nine road starts this season.
Pittsburgh starter Shane Youman (1-0, 3.00) earned his first major league win in his first start of the season on Tuesday in a 6-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. For his career, the 27-year-old lefthander has a 2.93 ERA spanning 27 2/3 innings.
Alfonso Soriano and Ryan Theriot each had three hits and an RBI to lead the Cubs to a 7-1 victory over the Pirates on Saturday.
It was the 12th win in 15 games for the Cubs, who own the best record in baseball since June 3 at 22-11. In the process, the club has moved within 4 1/2 games of first-place Milwaukee in the National League Central.
Chicago has gone eight consecutive games without a home run, the longest drought for the team since going homerless in eight straight from April 25-May 3, 1999.
