Capuano to start in rubber match against Nationals

Jul 8, 2007 - 1:14 PM Milwaukee (49-38) at Washington (35-52) 1:35 pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Ticker) - Chris Capuano will make his second start since returning from the disabled list as the Milwaukee Brewers hope to take the rubber match of a three-game series against the Washington Nationals on Sunday.

Capuano (5-5, 4.28 ERA) did not receive a decision in his return from the DL on Tuesday, yielding two runs - one earned - and five hits with two walks and three strikeouts over 3 1/3 innings in a 6-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The 28-year-old Capuano has not recorded a win since May 7, posting an 0-5 record with a 6.49 ERA in seven contests in that span after starting the season 5-0.

The Brewers have lost four of their last five games and seen the Cubs close to with 4 1/2 games in the NL Central.

Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun have a combined five home runs in the first two games of this series.

The Nationals will counter with Tim Redding (0-1, 5.40), who is making just his second start of the season.

In his first start since 2005, the 29-year-old Redding gave up three runs and five hits in a 3-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday.

The Nationals were able to avoid a three-game losing skid with a 5-4 triumph on Wednesday but have still lost four of their last six games.
