Twins hope to finally get back in action as they visit White Sox

Apr 20, 2013 - 2:02 PM (Sports Network) - The Minnesota Twins are a team that has had their share of rest this week, probably the most they've had in recent years during regular season play with the exception of the All-Star break.

The Twins haven't played since Tuesday due to inclement weather. They were scheduled to play the finale of a three-game series versus the L.A. Angels on Wednesday with Vance Worley on the hill, but the game was postponed. After an off day Thursday, the Twins had the opener of their three-game set against the Chicago White Sox postponed on Friday due to a forecast of cold and windy conditions.

Worley, who was acquired from Philadelphia in the offseason in the deal that sent outfielder Ben Revere to the Phillies, is off to a rough start. The right-hander will try to bounce back this afternoon against the White Sox in this shortened series.

So far Worley's gone 0-2 in three starts with a less-than-stellar 10.50 earned run average over 12 innings. On the positive side, in nine career starts in the month of April, he has compiled a 3-3 mark with a 3.78 ERA. Worley has thrown at least six innings in seven of his nine career starts in April.

Worley is currently riding a career-long five-game losing streak dating back to Aug. 6, 2012 against Atlanta. His last win came on Aug. 1 at Washington. He ended the year on the disabled list due to surgery on his right elbow. This will be his first time facing the White Sox.

Jake Peavy, the 2007 NL Cy Young Award winner, will take the mound for the White Sox. Peavy bounced back from a rough outing his last time out on Sunday in a 3-1 victory at Cleveland, where he struck out a season-high 11 batters and permitted one run in seven innings.

Peavy did not issue a walk for the second time in three starts and is 2-1 with a 3.93 earned run average. The right-hander rebounded nicely after surrendering six runs and nine hits in a setback to Washington.

He has faced Minnesota 11 times -- all starts -- in his career and owns a 6-3 record to go along with a 3.03 ERA in that time.

Minnesota has won two in a row after dropping five straight, while the White Sox had their two-game winning streak snapped with a 3-1 loss against Toronto Thursday.

Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer has hit safely in nine straight games. He is batting .462 (18-for-39) during the span.

Chicago creamed the Twins last season by a 14-4 count and won seven of the nine meetings in the Windy City.
