Brewers end skid, down Rangers
May 8, 2013 - 3:45 AM Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Yuniesky Betancourt smashed a two-run home run and Aramis Ramirez had a solo homer as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Texas Rangers, 6-3, in the first of a two-game set.Carlos Gomez hit a two-RBI double and Ryan Braun drove in a run for the Brewers, who snapped a five-game losing streak.
Brewers starter Wily Peralta (3-2) allowed three runs -- two earned -- on five hits over six frames and Jim Henderson pitched a scoreless ninth to notch his seventh save.
Mitch Moreland knocked a solo shot while Adrian Beltre and Nelson Cruz also drove in one run apiece for the Rangers, who entered the game off a 9-2 makeup loss against the Cubs. Starter Justin Grimm (2-2) fanned seven but gave up five runs on eight hits and three walks in five innings.
"Its a little frustrating," said Grimm. "I made some good pitches, but I made some bad ones too. Personally, it just didn't work out for me."
The Brewers scored five runs in the first. Grimm allowed three straight singles by Norichika Aoki, Jean Segura, and Braun, who scored Aoki. Three batters later, Gomez ripped a double, bringing Segura and Braun home. Betancourt followed that with a two-run blast.
"It was nice to have a good first inning, to put people on," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. "It's really nice, especially after you're not scoring runs."
Texas responded with a one-out homer by Moreland next inning.
Four innings later, Jeff Baker, pinch-hitting for Grimm, singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a fielding error by Aramis Ramirez. Nelson Cruz hit a sacrifice fly to bring Elvis Andrus home, cutting the deficit to 5-3.
Ramirez made up for his blunder with a two-out solo shot in the seventh.
Henderson came in the ninth for the Brewers. He allowed a two-out double by David Murphy, but got Craig Gentry to ground out to end the game.
