Royals use power surge to beat Orioles
May 10, 2013 - 4:23 AM Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Alex Gordon and Eric Hosmer belted two-run homers in the fourth inning, while Jeremy Guthrie remained perfect on the season, leading Kansas City to a 6-2 win over Baltimore in the finale of a three-game set from Camden Yards.Mike Moustakas added a solo shot for the Royals, who avoided a sweep and ended a three-game losing streak.
Guthrie (5-0) gave up seven hits and two runs -- one earned -- over his six-inning outing.
"When you're part of a menaingful game that's a positive," said Guthrie. "We had a nice April and we're trying to stay consistent here and compete against good teams and do what we're capable of doing."
Chris Davis homered and J.J. Hardy picked up an RBI single for the Orioles, who had won four in a row.
Freddy Garcia (0-1) allowed five hits and four runs in six full frames.
Kansas City pulled ahead in its fourth turn at the plate. Lorenzo Cain beat out a single to third ahead of Gordon's sixth homer of the season for a 2-1 game, and after a Billy Butler hit to right, Hosmer followed with his first of the year for a 4-1 Royals edge.
"One bad inning and two bad pitches," said Garcia. "I was behind in the count with those two guys and they hit two home runs."
Davis pulled the O's within 4-2 on a solo shot in the home half, but Moustakas took T.J. McFarland deep to begin the seventh. Salvador Perez then singled in Gordon in the eighth to push the visitors' edge to four runs.
After Guthrie exited, Aaron Crow, Kelvin Herrera and Luke Hochevar combined for three scoreless innings, during which they gave up one hit and struck out five Baltimore batters.
The O's scored once in the second but threatened for more. Adam Jones reached on an Alcides Escobar throwing error, then Matt Wieters singled two batters later ahead of Hardy's hit to plate Jones. Ryan Flaherty drew a walk to put two on once more, but Nolan Reimold grounded into a fielder's choice to end the frame.
