Tigers look for sixth straight against Hernandez, Mariners
Jul 12, 2007 - 1:22 PM Detroit (52-34) at Seattle (49-36) 10:05 pm EDTSEATTLE (Ticker) - Felix Hernandez look to continue his recent success when the Seattle Mariners host the Detroit Tigers in the opener of a four-game series Thursday.
The Mariners entered the All-Star break on a three-game winning streak and have won 12 of their last 15 contests.
Hernandez (5-4, 3.72) has not lost in his previous four starts, posting a 2-0 record with a 2.12 ERA in that span.
The 21-year-old Hernandez is coming off his best start since returning from the disabled list on May 15, pitching eight scoreless innings and allowing just two hits and two walks with two strikeouts in a 4-0 triumph over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday.
The Tigers will counter with Andrew Miller (4-2, 3.31), who will be making just his seventh career start.
The 22-year-old lefthander yielded just one run and three hits with four walks and six strikeouts over seven innings in a 9-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox last Friday.
Manager Jim Leyland, who led the American League to a 5-4 victory in the All-Star Game, will hope to lead Detroit to its sixth straight win.
