Angels hope to remain hot in Kansas City
May 23, 2013 - 2:31 PM (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim look to push their winning streak to five games when they open a four-game series with the Kansas City Royals Thursday at Kauffman Stadium. The Angels swept the Seattle Mariners in a quick two-game set and recorded a 7-1 win in Wednesday's series finale. C.J. Wilson allowed just one run on six hits and two walks while striking out 10 to snap a personal three-start winless streak.
"I didn't feel good today ... so I threw a bunch of changeups and it worked," explained Wilson. "When you're in rhythm with your catcher, it makes it pretty easy."
Josh Hamilton and Alberto Callaspo each drove in a pair of runs, Albert Pujols went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Mark Trumbo had three of the 12 hits for Los Angeles, which has scored 37 runs during a season-high four-game winning streak.
Anaheim outscored the Mariners, 19-1, in the two-game set.
Joe Blanton gets the nod for the Halos and is still searching for his first win with the club. Blanton is 0-7 with a 6.62 ERA in nine starts and 3-2 with a 2.96 ERA in seven career starts against the Royals, who beat him on May 13 with seven runs and 12 hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Kansas City has lost five of six games and dropped two of three matchups with the Houston Astros.
George Kottaras drove in the lone run for the Royals, who had lost four straight one-run games before defeating Houston on Tuesday.
Royals starter James Shields allowed two runs and seven hits while striking out seven in seven innings to absorb the loss.
"We're putting a good effort out there," Shields said. "That's all you can really ask for and obviously the results aren't there."
Ervin Santana draws the start for Kansas City against his former Anaheim teammates and is 3-3 with a 2.77 ERA in eight starts. Santana, who pitched for the Angels from 2005-2012, has lost his last two starts and the Royals are winless in each of his previous three trips to the mound.
The right-handed Santana will face the Angels for the first time.
Kansas City won two of three meetings with the Angels earlier this month.
