Orioles slug their way past Jays

May 25, 2013 - 5:47 AM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - J.J. Hardy, Chris Davis, Danny Valencia and Adam Jones all homered as the Baltimore Orioles outslugged the Toronto Blue Jays, 10-6, Friday in the second test of a four-game set at Rogers Centre.

Nick Markakis had three hits and three RBI, Hardy hit a three-run shot and Manny Machado made Orioles history, registering at least three hits in five consecutive road games for Baltimore, which has won three of four and finished with 16 hits.

Starter Chris Tillman (4-2) tossed five innings and allowed three runs on 10 hits and struck out seven in the victory.

"They put some good at-bats together tonight," said Tillman. "They changed their approach to me a little bit and sat on some of the pitches. They're a good-hitting ballclub and if you fall behind on them they'll make you pay."

Melky Cabrera hit a solo homer and had two RBI, while Adam Lind and Brett Lawrie each contributed solo blasts for the Blue Jays, who had won their last two.

Sean Nolin (0-1) lasted just 1 1/3 innings in his MLB debut, allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk.

"Definitely not the way I envisioned it," said Nolin. "I think I just had too much energy going and wasted too much gas before I did anything."

Toronto trailed 10-3 through 5 1/2 innings, but closed the gap to four runs over its next two at-bats. Munenori Kawasaki's two-out, RBI double accounted for one run and Cabrera followed with run-scoring single, plating Kawasaki to add another.

Lind made it 10-6 with a leadoff homer in the seventh, but the Jays couldn't dig themselves out the hole.

The Orioles erupted for nine runs through the first three frames to take comfortable 9-3 lead.

In the first, Nolin served up back-to-back singles to open up the game and Hardy followed with a three-run shot to left to give Baltimore a 3-0 lead.

Cabrera put the Blue Jays on the board in the home half with a solo homer, his second of the season, to make it 3-1.

Nolin, though, labored through the next frame and quickly loaded the bases with no outs. Markakis then plated all three runners with a double into the right-field gap for a 6-1 Orioles lead.

Lawrie smacked a leadoff homer in the second and Emilio Bonifacio provided an RBI single to cut the Jays' deficit in half, 6-3, but the O's continued their offensive barrage in the third.

Davis hit his 16th homer of the season to start the inning versus Ramon Ortiz and, following a Matt Wieters walk, Valencia clubbed a two-run bomb to left to increase Baltimore's advantage to 9-3.

Jones' solo homer in the sixth came off Brad Lincoln and pushed Baltimore's lead to 10-3.

The Jays had 17 hits ... Toronto placed pitcher Darren Oliver on the 15-day disabled list, selected the contract of Nolin from Double-A New Hampshire and transferred pitcher J.A. Happ to the 60-day disabled list prior to the game ... The Orioles are 10-35 in their last 45 games at Rogers Centre dating back to June 8, 2008 ... Machado became the only other player in MLB history younger than 21 with a streak of four or more consecutive road games with at least three hits, joining Ty Cobb, who had five straight road games with at least three hits from September 30-October 3, 1907. Cobb was also 20 at the time ... Machado broke the previous three-hit consecutive road game Baltimore record held by Cal Ripkin (1990), Eddie Murray (1981) and Don Buford (1970).
