Red Sox wrap series with Francona's Indians
May 26, 2013 - 12:01 PM (Sports Network) - Felix Doubront aims to snap a four-game winless streak Sunday when the Boston Red Sox close a four-game series against the Cleveland Indians at Fenway Park.Doubront has a pair of defeats in his last four outings, including Tuesday at Chicago when he allowed five hits and two runs in six innings against the White Sox.
The lefty is 2-1 with a 4.11 ERA in three games versus the Indians. That includes a win on April 16 at Cleveland.
Former Boston manager Terry Francona will send Corey Kluber to the hill today as the Indians try to gain a split of the set. The righty pitched an inning in relief against the Red Sox on April 17. He's coming off a Tuesday loss against Detroit when he pitched 6 1/3 innings and gave up eight hits and three runs, but also had a career-high eight strikeouts.
The Red Sox rallied with four two-out runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat the Indians, 7-4, on a rainy Saturday at Fenway Park.
Cleveland reliever Vinnie Pestano (1-1) gave up three doubles in the decisive frame, with a pinch-hitting Mike Carp tying the game and scoring the go-ahead run on Dustin Pedroia's shot off the Green Monster.
After the next two batters were walked, one intentionally, the Red Sox scored two more runs when the Indians misplayed a Daniel Nava pop up to shallow left field.
Andrew Bailey closed the door in the ninth for his sixth save of the season. Boston's comeback made a winner out of Junichi Tazawa (4-2), who was flawless in the top of the eighth.
The Red Sox's No. 8 and 9 hitters, Jose Iglesias and Pedro Ciriaco, each collected three hits. Ciriaco had one RBI and scored the tying run in the eighth.
"This was a very good team win," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "We got contributions from a lot of guys."
Asdrubal Cabrera had three hits and an RBI for the Indians, who lost for the fourth time in five games.
Pedroia went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI yesterday for the Red Sox. The second baseman is hitting a robust .406 (28-for-69) over his last 17 games.
The Red Sox have won five of the six meetings this season.
