Buehrle makes first start since signing extension

Jul 13, 2007 - 1:49 PM Chi White Sox (40-47) at Baltimore (38-50), 7:05 pm EDT

BALTIMORE (Ticker) -- Chicago White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle makes his first start since signing a contract extension when his team visits the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.

Buehrle (6-4, 3.03 ERA) on Sunday inked a four-year extension worth $56 million. In his last outing on Saturday, the lefthander pitched eight scoreless innings during a 3-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins. He is 4-1 with a 2.28 ERA in 10 career appearances - eight starts - against Baltimore.

Coming off the first complete-game shutout of his career, Erik Bedard (7-4, 3.40) takes the mound for the Orioles. The lefthander allowed just two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out 15 in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Texas Rangers. He has a 2.54 ERA in eight starts at Camden Yards this season.

Jermaine Dye and Jim Thome homered to lead the White Sox to a 9-7 victory Thursday. Thome is batting .438 (14-for-32) with five blasts in his last nine games against Baltimore.

Rob Mackowiak went 3-for-3 with two RBI and is batting .517 (15-for-29) with a homer and 11 RBI in 13 career games against Baltimore.

The Orioles have lost eight of their last nine home games against the White Sox.
