Billingsley looks to remain undefeated against Bonds, Giants
Jul 13, 2007 - 2:24 PM LA Dodgers (49-40) at San Francisco (38-48) 10:15 pm EDTSAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- Chad Billingsley will hope to continue his unbeaten season when the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants renew their rivalry in the opener of a three-game series Friday.
Billingsley (5-0, 3.62 ERA) has posted a 1-0 record with a 4.58 ERA in four starts since being added to the Dodgers' rotation on June 21.
The 22-year-old righthander did not receive a decision after yielding three runs and six hits with five strikeouts over five innings in a 6-5 loss to the Florida Marlins last Friday.
Billingsley will be given the tasking of keeping Barry Bonds in the ballpark.
Bonds, who went 0-for-2 in the All-Star Game at his hometown AT&T Park, has 751 career home runs, putting him five homers shy of breaking Hank Aaron's all-time record.
The seven-time MVP is batting .295 with 17 home runs and 42 RBI in 78 games this season.
Matt Cain (3-9, 3.53) will take the mound for the Giants, who have won five of their last eight contests.
The 22-year-old Cain snapped a six-game losing streak in his last start, allowing four runs and nine hits with six strikeouts in a 9-5 triumph over the Cincinnati Reds on July 4.
It was Cain's first win since May 13 and San Francisco went 0-8 in Cain's starts over that stretch.
