Rays take win streak to Miami

May 29, 2013 - 2:41 PM (Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Rays and Miami Marlins will resume head-to- head play Wednesday with another two-game series at Marlins Park.

The Rays notched a 10-6 home victory over Miami on Monday, then followed that up with a 7-6 comeback win on Tuesday. In the latter game, they battled back from a four-run deficit and sealed it on Desmond Jennings' walkoff single with two outs in the ninth inning. Yunel Escobar tied the game in the eighth with a two-out single.

"It's so much fun to watch right now," manager Joe Maddon said. "Even when we were down early and their pitcher was pitching well, I just felt confident that we could come back."

After losing three in a row, the Rays have rebounded with three straight wins to close to within four games of the AL East-leading Red Sox entering Wednesday. With another win here, they would climb to a season-high four games above .500.

Meanwhile, the Marlins' season-long struggles have continued as they have dropped seven in a row. At 13-39, they own the worst record in the majors.

On a positive note, right fielder Marcell Ozuna owns a 13-game hitting streak, the longest active streak in the majors and the longest by any Marlins player this season. Ozuna made his big league debut on April 30.

Toeing the rubber for Miami is Tom Koehler, who has shuffled between the bullpen and starting rotation since being called up from the minors. The right-hander has allowed four runs over his last two starts, while striking out 10 in 12 innings.

For Tampa Bay, Roberto Hernandez is looking to shake off back-to-back rough outings. On May 18 in Baltimore, he lasted only two innings after giving up five earned runs on eight hits. Then, against the Yankees on Friday, Hernandez was tagged for another five runs and got the hook after four innings.

Maddon said the coaching staff has been working with Hernandez on some adjustments.

"We nailed some stuff down, and we're going to see if it plays out," Maddon said. "And we also thought so last time, but sometimes it takes a little bit more time to make an adjustment or get a point across."

In four road starts this season, Hernandez is 0-3 with a 8.10 ERA.

The Rays have won 11 of 12 against the Marlins and are seeking their fifth straight victory in Miami.
