Reds-Indians shift set to Cleveland

May 29, 2013 - 2:41 PM (Sports Network) - The Ohio series shifts back to Cleveland on Wednesday, as the Indians host the Cincinnati Reds for the first of two games at Progressive Field.

Cincinnati took care of business at home, notching a 4-2 win over the Indians on Monday and an 8-2 victory on Tuesday.

The Reds churned out 18 hits in Tuesday's triumph, as every starting position player aside from Jay Bruce had a multi-hit game. Mat Latos gave up just one earned run in 6 1/3 innings of work, striking out seven. Tribe starter Zach McAllister was tagged for three runs in 5 1/3 innings before the bullpen yielded four more runs in the seventh.

Cleveland has lost five straight and seven of its last eight games overall. The team is hitting a collective .209 and has been outscored, 33-14, during the five-game skid.

"It happens," pitcher Zach McAllister said. "We're in a funk right now."

Making matters worse, closer Chris Perez was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Monday with mild tendinitis in his right (throwing) rotator cuff.

Meanwhile, Cincinnati has reeled off 14 wins over its last 17 games.

"As a team, we're feeling great," left fielder Xavier Paul said. "We're pitching real well and hitting real well, and we've finally started to win some games on the road, which is great."

The Reds will turn to veteran starter Bronson Arroyo, who is looking to extend a personal three-game winning streak. Arroyo has a 1.40 ERA over his last three starts.

Reds outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is making his first trip back to Cleveland, where he spent six years.

"Every day, I wake up and see how they're doing," Choo said. "I'm really happy the Indians are doing well."

"Choo was awesome," said Indians reliever Joe Smith. "He's a good dude. He played hard, he wanted to win, and you could never dock him for his effort out there. That's all you can ask. He was good to us, friendly to everybody."

Taking the hill for Cleveland is Justin Masterson, who has given up two runs or fewer in six of his 11 starts. However, he was knocked around for five runs at Boston on Friday to take his first loss in four starts.

With another win here, the Reds would tie the all-time series at 42-42.
