Indians score seven in the fourth to sweep Reds
May 31, 2013 - 3:55 AM Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Scott Kazmir threw a season-high seven frames and the Cleveland Indians scored seven runs in the fourth inning as they swept the Cincinnati Reds in a two-game set at Progressive Field with a 7-1 victory.Kazmir (3-2) gave up one run on eight hits and a walk while fanning five. He came into the game having allowed 11 runs over 13 innings in his last three starts and had not earned a win since May 9 against Oakland.
"Really, really impressed," said Indians manager Terry Francons. "It seemed like from the first pitch of the game, he stuck his fastball so many times tonight, whether it was in or out, but he just kept sticking it and locating it and pitching downhill and was so aggressive with it that it set everything else up."
Michael Bourn drove in two runs while Ryan Raburn, Asdrubal Cabrera, Michael Brantley, Jason Kipnis and Yan Gomes all contributed with an RBI apiece.
Cincinnati starter Homer Bailey (3-4) gave up all seven runs and was taken out after 3 2/3 innings. Jay Bruce drove in the lone run for the Reds, who swept a two-game set against Cleveland at Great American Ball Park earlier this week.
"We were cruising through the first time through the order and then in the third inning we got two outs and just couldn't close the door," said Bailey.
With two outs and two on in the fourth, Brantley and Gomes started the onslaught with back-to-back RBI singles. After Brantley stole third base, Raburn and Bourn connected on back-to-back doubles to left, with Bourn driving in two. Kipnis then singled, scoring Bourn. Alfredo Simon replaced Bailey, but he allowed an RBI double to Cabrera.
The Reds got on the board in the sixth when Bruce smacked a single that scored Brandon Phillips. However, they mustered just one more hit, a leadoff single in the seventh by Derrick Robinson.
