Brewers rock Phillies in series finale

Jun 9, 2013 - 9:27 PM Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Carlos Gomez slugged a two-run homer, Jean Segura added two RBI and Kyle Lohse tossed eight strong innings, as Milwaukee dismantled Philadelphia, 9-1, in the finale of a four-game set from Miller Park.

Scooter Gennett contributed a two-run triple for the Brewers, who took three of four in the series.

Lohse (2-6) scattered four hits and one run -- a Humberto Quintero homer -- while fanning six without issuing a walk to earn his first win since April 22.

"If he hadn't given up that one run, it would have been a tough decision," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "He just had everything working today."

Michael Young collected a pair of hits for the Phillies, who leave Wisconsin with a three-game losing streak after winning five in a row including Thursday's series opener.

"That's how it's been going for us lately...win five, lose three," said Phils manager Charlie Manuel. "We had three hits in the first inning but we couldn't do anything with it. I've got to give Lohse some credit there."

Jonathan Pettibone (3-2) was rocked to the tune of four hits and six runs -- four earned -- over 5 1/3 frames.

The Brewers gave Lohse all the offense he needed with four runs in the home second. Pettibone loaded the bases with none out on two singles and a hit batsman, then Juan Francisco's grounder plated a run, Gennett's triple to right center brought in two and a Lohse sacrifice bunt plated another.

Gomez made it 6-0 for the hosts in the home sixth, driving a pitch to left after Logan Schafer began the frame with a base hit.

Segura's two-run single in the seventh stretched the Brewers' advantage to 8-0.

Quintero's shot to right center in the top of the eighth was equalized by Martin Maldonado in the home half.

Jim Henderson stepped in for Lohse in the ninth and despite serving up Young's leadoff single, induced a double-play grounder from Ben Revere and ended the game by getting Jimmy Rollins on a grounder to first.

The visitors collected three hits in the first but failed to score, thanks to the arm of Brewers right fielder Norichika Aoki, who gunned down Young at the plate trying to come in on a single from Ryan Howard.

"That throw Nori made was a huge out," Roenicke admitted.
