Marlins looks to end two-game slide

Jul 14, 2007 - 2:16 PM Washington (37-52) at Florida (42-48) 7:05 pm EDT

MIAMI (Ticker) -- The Florida Marlins will try to end their two-game losing streak when they meet the Washington Nationals in the second game of a weekend series on Saturday.

In the series opener, All-Star Dmitri Young drove in four runs, including a three-run double, and Nook Logan scored four runs as the Nationals outlasted the Marlins, 14-10, on Friday.

It was the most runs Washington scored in a game since the franchise was located in Montreal.

Florida's Sergio Mitre (3-4, 2.85 ERA) takes the ball with the hopes to repeating his last start. Mitre allowed two runs in seven innings in a 7-2 win at the Los Angeles Dodgers last Saturday.

The righthander gave up three runs with six strikeouts in a no-decision in his lone start against Washington on April 16, 2006.

The Nationals will counter with rookie Matt Chico (4-5, 4.39), who has not allowed a run since the sixth inning of a 4-3 setback against the Cleveland Indians on June 23, a span of 13 frames.

In his last outing, Chico tossed seven strong innings to beat the Chicago Cubs, 6-0, on July 4.

The 24-year-old lefthander will be making his third career start vs. the Marlins, who have tagged Chico for 12 runs and 19 hits combined in 13 innings this season.
