Brewers look to snap three-game slide
Jul 14, 2007 - 2:33 PM Colorado (45-44) at Milwaukee (49-40) 7:05 pm EDTMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Ben Sheets is hoping to bounce back from his first loss in more than a month.
Sheets takes the mound as the Milwaukee Brewers will try to snap a three-game losing streak when they host the Colorado Rockies in the second of a three-game series Saturday.
In his last start, Sheets (10-4, 3.41 ERA) absorbed his first loss since May 22 after surrendering five runs and eight hits with six strikeouts over six innings in a 6-3 defeat to the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 5.
The 28-year-old righthander will have help from a Brewers offense that features two good, young hitters in the middle of the lineup.
Rookie Ryan Braun blasted two home runs and Prince Fielder added another in Friday's 10-6 loss to the Rockies. The pair have combined for 10 homers in their last six games.
Colorado has charged Rodrigo Lopez (5-2, 4.83) with the mission of shutting down these two sluggers, who have totaled 43 home runs and 102 RBI in a combined 127 games.
The 31-year-old Lopez pitched five innings, allowing three runs and five hits with four strikeouts in a 6-3 triumph over the Philadelphia Phillies last Saturday.
The Rockies have won six of their last seven contests thanks to an offensive outburst, producing 61 runs during that span.
Colorado catcher Yorvit Torrealba has 12 hits over his last five games.
