Teheran, Braves shut out Giants
Jun 17, 2013 - 4:07 AM Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Julio Teheran spun six solid innings and the Braves bullpen kept the shutout in tact by closing a 3-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants in the rubber match of a three-game set at Turner Field.Freddie Freeman had three hits and an RBI in support of Teheran (5-3), who struck out eight and worked his way out of trouble to cancel out the Giants' seven hits.
"I was using more of my four-seam fastball," said Teheran. "I was commanding pretty good and using all my pitches."
B.J. Upton had an RBI double and Atlanta received a perfect inning from three separate relievers, with Craig Kimbrel notching his 19th save to secure a second straight win for the Braves.
Tim Lincecum (4-7) walked five and gave up six hits as the Giants dropped their fourth game in six contests. He was charged with three runs -- two earned -- in the setback.
"My confidence is fine. In every outing, I go out there and I can take some positives from it," said Lincecum. "I'm trying not to lean on the negatives so much because that focus can lead to some compounding issues."
Brandon Belt and Buster Posey each had two hits, but San Francisco went 1- for-7 with runners in scoring position.
Freeman sprayed a base hit into right to score Andrelton Simmons in the first to give Atlanta the lead and one it would not relinquish.
Justin Upton scored in the third to make it 2-0 when brother B.J. had his double kick off the glove of Andres Torres in left.
Teheran loaded the bases after fanning four batters in a row, but Justin Upton made a diving snag in left on Joaquin Arias' fly ball to leave all the runners stranded in the fourth.
The Giants came up empty again after loading the bases in the sixth, and then fell behind 3-0 in the bottom half following a lackadaisical play from Torres.
Torres nonchalantly played a base hit from Ramiro Pena and let the ball go underneath his glove. Pena hustled into third on the play and scored on Jordan Schafer's suicide squeeze.
San Francisco went without a hit over the last the frames and struck out 12 times for the contest.
