Jays shoot for seventh straight victory and series win over Rockies

Jun 18, 2013 - 2:49 PM (Sports Network) - The Toronto Blue Jays aim for their seventh straight victory when they resume a three-game interleague series with the Colorado Rockies.

The Blue Jays made it six wins in a row with Monday's 2-0 win, as Maicer Izturis hit a two-run single in the eighth inning and finished 2-for-3.

Josh Johnson worked 7 1/3 shutout innings, scattering five hits and striking out 10 in the no-decision for the Blue Jays.

Brett Cecil recorded the final two outs of the eighth to earn the win and Casey Janssen notched his 15th save of the season.

"We had great pitching today and we played great defense. That is was kept us in the ball game and gave us a chance to win it late," said Blue Jays outfielder Rajai Davis.

Esmil Rogers hopes to keep Toronto to rolling when he takes the mound Tuesday. He is 2-2 with a 3.21 ERA in 26 games (3 starts) and has never faced the Rockies.

Rogers threw seven innings of one-run ball in last Thursday's 3-1 win at Texas.

Colorado has lost four of six games and opened a nine-game road trip on a poor note.

Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa carried a no-hitter over 5 1/3 innings in Monday's loss. He allowed just one hit, walked three and struck out four over seven frames. De La Rosa was bothered by a hand issue in the game.

"He was pretty uncomfortable the last couple of innings he was out there, but he threw the ball well tonight," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said.

Matt Belisle was pegged with the loss for Colorado.

Jeff Francis gets the call for the Rockies Tuesday and he is 2-4 with a 5.97 ERA in 10 starts. Francis has fared well in his career against the Jays as evidenced by a 3-0 record and a 2.37 ERA in three starts.

The Rockies and Blue Jays last met in Toronto in 2007, with the Blue Jays winning by 9-8, 11-6 and 5-0 counts.
