Dominguez's slam leads Astros to rout of Brewers

Jun 19, 2013 - 7:44 AM Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Matt Dominguez went 2-for-3 with a grand slam and five RBI, while Jordan Lyles worked seven strong innings as the Houston Astros pounded the Milwaukee Brewers, 10-1, in the opener of a three-game set.

Lyles (4-1) gave up one run on seven hits while striking out five. He has won each of his last three decisions and hasn't lost since May 12.

Carlos Pena hit a three-run homer, while Chris Carter and Marwin Gonzalez knocked in a run apiece for the Astros, who have won five of their last six games.

Scooter Gennett drove in the lone run for the Brewers, losers in four of their last six.

Alfredo Figaro (1-1) was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs -- four earned -- on five hits over 4 1/3 innings.

"It was one of those days where you feel like your command is just not there," Figaro said. "Today, I was a little tired in this game. I didn't have a lot of energy in that game, but we have to compete and we have to find the answers no matter how we feel. There's no excuse for the energy. You just have to fight it."

The Astros got on the board in the second when Dominguez scored J.D. Martinez with a sacrifice fly to center field.

The Brewers tied the game in the third. Juan Francisco opened the frame with a triple then scored on Gennett's infield single.

With runners on the corners in the fifth, Gonzalez pushed a perfect suicide squeeze up the first base line to plate Justin Maxwell.

"Everybody's having good, quality at-bats and moving the guys over where we need to and Marwin had that squeeze bunt and it was great," Dominguez said. "Right now, everybody's having a pretty solid approach. We're not swinging at a lot of stuff in the dirt or anything like that."

Pena's three-run blast in the fifth gave the Astros a 5-1 lead.

Carter's RBI double in the seventh made it 6-1 before Dominguez crushed his grand slam to give Houston a nine-run edge.

After Pena was hit by a pitch and Maxwell walked, Dominguez blasted a two-seam fastball over the wall in left-center. It was his first career grand slam.
