Marlins aim for back-to-back home wins

Jul 15, 2007 - 2:15 PM Washington (37-53) at Florida (43-48) 1:05 pm EDT

MIAMI (Ticker) - The Florida Marlins are in search of their first pair of home wins since late May when they face the Washington Nationals in the series finale on Sunday.

Sergio Mitre pitched effectively into the eighth inning and Miguel Cabrera, Jeremy Hermida and Josh Willingham all homered for Florida in Saturday's 5-2 victory.

Cabrera's homer helped him moved into sole possession of third place on the franchise all-time list with 123, surpassing Gary Sheffield.

Scott Olsen (6-7, 5.23 ERA) takes the mound for Florida, which has not won consecutive games at Dolphin Stadium since May. He hopes to bounce back after leaving his last outing with a stiff back against the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 8.

In his last home outing against Washington, Olsen gave up five runs and 10 hits in five frames in a no-decision on April 20. He is 1-1 in three meetings in the series this season.

The Nationals counter with John Simontacchi (6-6, 6.11), who has won his last three road starts. The righthander gave up three runs through six innings of a 5-4 win vs. Milwaukee on July 7.

In three career appearances against Florida, Simontacchi has posted a 1-0 record with a 3.29 ERA, with his lone win coming on May 13 here.
